¡FEMINISMOS!
19 julio – 1 diciembre 2019

«The Feminist Avanguard of the 1970s. Works from the VERBUND COLLECTION, Vienna «

The exhibition highlights the milestones of the Feminist Avant-garde that, in the 1970s, rewrote the canon of art history. It shows more than two hundred works by 73 artists such as Cindy Sherman, Helena Almeida, Ana Mendieta, Judy Chicago, Valie Export, Birgit Jürgenssen, Ketty La Rocca, ORLAN, Gina Pane, Mary Beth Edelson, Martha Rosler or Martha Wilson.the CCCB has incorporated seven local artists into the exhibition: Pilar Aymerich, Mari Chordà, Eulàlia Grau, Fina Miralles, Angels Ribé, Eugènia Balcells and Marisa González. Dorothée Selz, born in Paris but  lived and worked in Barcelona in the 1970s, is also part of this group. Through the use of languages and techniques such as photography, cinema, video, performance and happenings, these artists deconstructed the repressive cultural and social conditioning factors of the time, as well as the mechanisms and automatisms of the oppression of women. For the first time in the history of art, the artists began, as a collective, to take the initiative in the «representation of women» through the creation of a plurality of female identities determined by themselves.
